The Cook 4 Change project was designed to educate and improve the health of people at risk of Coronary Heart Disease.
There were two main parts to the project, Cooking Courses, and one to one referrals to Dietetic Support.
Cooking sessions.
Our Cook 4 Change project arranges cooking sessions that are interactive, educational sessions on how to cook foods that are healthy for your heart. They are group sessions and run once per week over 10 weeks and last for around 2 hours. They are designed to help you learn new skills and adapt present cooking methods. You are welcome to bring relatives or friends, especially if they are involved in the cooking or shopping, or if their support is important to you.
Dietitian Referral.
A dietitian is a trained expert in food and nutrition. They use the most up to date public health and scientific research, to enable you to make appropriate lifestyle and food choices. They are also skilled in communication and behavioural change and will work with you to set an agreeable action plan that is realistic and personal to you.
The pilot of the project has now ended and unfortunately due to lack of continuity of funding there are no future sessions planned at the minute. However, we can still support patients through our website www.cook4change.co.uk.
On the website you will find resources on cardio-protective foods, guides to help you shop for heart healthy foods and over 100 cardio-protective recipes that are simple to follow and suitable for the whole family. There are also sections where you can ask your dietary questions. If you have any further queries then please contact us on 0161 621 3354 or via our website www.cook4change.co.uk.
